The brief.

Show why Automated Logic is a great place to work, and how it grows people. Scott went from an entry-level contractor role to a leadership position.

What we filmed.

Drone, b-roll and photos at the training center. Interviews in the training room. Then a field engineer's day at a customer site: vehicles arriving, the team briefing, ladders, VAV boxes, WebCTRL graphics on a tablet.

“What makes a good field engineer is somebody that doesn't even necessarily have to have experience in [HVAC] or electrical, but just has to have a particular mechanical aptitude.”

Tom Yackanin, field engineer, Automated Logic

From Tom's interview

My name is Tom Yackanin. I'm a field engineer here at Automated Logic. One of the big selling points of Automated Logic, or at least when I was in the initial interview, was just the overall professionalism that everybody seemed to have, the team seemed to present. I remember the first day I got to use WebCTRL and it was a very eye-opening experience.

So nice the way that there was a thermographic floor plan and I was able to see the logic, how it worked. And it wasn't just a bunch of lines and numbers written down. There were several different types of training that really benefited me. There was lots of hands-on training in a formal classroom setting. But then there was also, of course, in-the-field training where you're working with more experienced technicians and field engineers that have experience and have been able to see things that I haven't.

So I was able to work with them as well as do in-classroom training. And all of that together really was a benefit to me early on in my career. So what makes a good field engineer is somebody that doesn't even necessarily have to have experience in HVAC or electrical, but just has to have a particular mechanical aptitude. Somebody that likes to kind of fiddle with electronics or mechanical components and just has a drive to learn, to want to learn and to grow.

And we have all the tools and training in place to make that person have the career that they have never had before. We get to treat the customer the way that I would want to be treated, just by meeting their needs and serving them. Therefore, we are part of a winning team and a winning atmosphere, because we get to not only serve the customer and meet their needs, but it also brings us joy in seeing the reaction and the benefit that they get out of it.

So whether we're having a bad day or maybe we're out sick or somebody is having a baby, then we all like to step up to make sure that whatever is happening, you're not having to worry about it, because you might be unable to do anything about it. So we make sure that we help each other out, just to get the job done.

So here at Automated Logic, one of the benefits that we have is knowing that no matter what's happening out in the field and how busy we might be or overwhelmed, there is a huge team behind us that has our back. In 12 years I've worked here at Automated Logic, I've been able to slowly kind of work up the ranks, and it has been with all the training I've received and the people I've worked with. That's really benefited me personally and helped me to get to where I am today.

Here at Automated Logic, we offer a quality product, quality service and an amazing team.
